朝から夫と一緒に銭湯に行った。

I went to a public bath with my husband from the morning.

家の近所にあるお気に入りの銭湯は、異なる４つの浴槽がある。

My favorite public bath near my house has four different bathtubs.

44度のあつ湯と、42度のジェットバス、40度のミルク風呂、20度の水風呂である。

There are 44 degree hot water, 42 degree jet bath, 40 degree milk bath, and 20 degree cold bath.

あつ湯とジェットバスは日替わりでお湯の香りが変わる。

The scent of hot water and whirlpool bath changes daily.

本日はあつ湯がコンブチャの製造に使用する紅茶や緑茶のお湯だった。

Today, Atsuyu was the hot water for black tea and green tea used to make kombucha.

コンブチャとは紅茶や緑茶に菌と砂糖を加えて発酵させた飲み物のことで、なんとなく名前は聞いたことがあって健康にいいイメージは持っていたけれど、紅茶や緑茶を使うということは今日はじめて知った。

Kombucha is a drink made by fermenting black tea or green tea with fungi and sugar. I had heard the name and had an image of good health, but it is the first time to use black tea or green tea today. Knew.

そして、本日のジェットバスは滋賀県の奥永源寺で栽培された紫草の根「紫根」のお湯だった。

And today's jet bath was hot water of purple grass root "purple root" cultivated at Okueigenji in Shiga prefecture.

正直、奥永源寺という地名も紫草という植物も今まで知らなかったので、家に帰ってからそれらについて調べた。

To be honest, I didn't know the place name Okueigenji and the plant Shigusa, so I searched for them after I got home.

奥永源寺は、日本の禅の文化を持つ宗教「臨済宗」の分派の寺「永源寺」の周辺の地域のことを言うらしい。

Okueigenji is said to refer to the area around "Eigenji", a branch of the religion "Rinzai sect" that has Japanese Zen culture.

そして紫草は、かつて日本で最も高貴な色として定められていた紫色の染料となる植物だそう。

And purple grass is a plant that becomes a purple dye that was once defined as the most noble color in Japan.

西暦701年に、日本では官位の最も高い人の着物の色は紫色と定められたために、日本では紫は高貴な色のイメージがいまでも根付いている。

In 701 AD, the color of the kimono of the person with the highest official rank in Japan was decided to be purple, so the image of purple is still rooted in Japan as a noble color.

コンブチャのお湯も、紫根のお湯も香りがはっきりとしてなかったため、私にはお風呂としての魅力はわからなかったが、新しい知識を身に付けることができたのでよかった。

Neither the kombucha hot water nor the purple root hot water had a clear scent, so I didn't understand the appeal of the bath, but I'm glad that I was able to acquire new knowledge.

夫は、コンブチャのお風呂がとても気持ちよかったといっていた。

My husband said that the kombucha bath was very pleasant.

わたしは銭湯で、あつ湯と水風呂を交互に入るのが好きである。

I like to take alternating hot and cold baths in a public bath.

いつも銭湯に行ったら全身を洗ってから、あつ湯につかる。

Whenever I go to a public bath, I wash my whole body and then soak in hot water.

あつ湯が熱くて耐えられなくなったタイミングで、水風呂に浸かる。

Soak in a cold bath when the hot water becomes hot and unbearable.

水風呂に入った瞬間はその温度差に心臓が縮こまるが、徐々に慣れてきて身体全身がポカポカとしてくる。

The moment you take a water bath, your heart shrinks due to the temperature difference, but as you gradually get used to it, your whole body becomes warm.

ずっと水風呂に浸かっていると寒くなってくるので、またあつ湯に浸かる。

If you soak in a cold bath for a long time, it will get cold, so soak in hot water again.

そのサイクルを繰り返していると、血管が収縮・拡張を繰り返すことにより、全身に血が巡る感覚になる。それが大変気持ち良い。

When the cycle is repeated, the blood vessels repeatedly contract and dilate, giving the sensation of blood circulating throughout the body. It feels very good.

銭湯好きの間では、その全身に血が巡り頭が冴えるような感覚のことを「整う」という。

Among public bath enthusiasts, the feeling that blood circulates throughout the body and makes the head clear is called "preparation."

整うことができるかどうかはその日の体調に左右されるが、本日は大変整うことができた。

Whether or not I can get in shape depends on the physical condition of the day, but I was able to get in shape today.

全身の血管が脈打ち、頭が冴えわたり、大変気持ちの良いお風呂だった。

銭湯を出ると、待合室で夫が漫画を読んで待っていた。

When I left the public bath, my husband was waiting to read the manga in the waiting room.

コンブチャの試供品を配っていたので、１本頂いて帰った。

I was handing out free samples of kombucha, so I got one and went home.

銭湯から出たら、夫と家で昼間からお酒を飲もうということになったので、おつまみを調達することになった。

When I got out of the public bath, I decided to drink alcohol at home with my husband from daytime, so I decided to procure snacks.

魚屋さんにいって、サーモンとクジラのお刺身、釜揚げしらす、鰻の肝の串焼きを買った。それから、八百屋さんで大根を買って帰宅した。

She went to a fishmonger and she bought salmon and whale sashimi, fried whitebait, and eel liver skewers. She then she bought a radish at a greengrocer and went home.

それから、家で夫と本日買ったものをつまみにお酒を飲んだ。

Then I drank at home with my husband and a snack of what I bought today.

サーモンのお刺身は脂がのっていておいしかった。

The salmon sashimi was fatty and delicious.

クジラの刺身はいままであまり食べる機会がなかったが、多少の臭みはあったものの、すりおろした生姜と合わせて醤油に付けて食べたらとてもおいしかった。

I haven't had many chances to eat whale sashimi until now, but although it had a slight odor, it was very delicious when I dipped it in soy sauce with grated ginger.

馬の刺身に近い味だと感じた。

I felt it tasted like horse sashimi.

しらすは、すりおろした大根と一緒にポン酢をかけて食べた。この前菜を「しらすおろし」というが、私はこれが大好きである。

Shirasu was eaten with ponzu sauce along with grated radish. This appetizer is called "shirasu grated", and I love it.

鰻の肝の串焼きもレンジであたためて食べた。とてもおいしかったが、かけて食べようとおもっていた山椒のパウダーを切らしてしまっていたのが心残りである。

I also ate the eel liver skewers in the microwave. It was very delicious, but I regret that I had run out of Japanese pepper powder that I was thinking of eating.

魚屋さんで買ったものをすべて食べてしまったが、飲み足りなかったので、買っておいたレトルト食品を温めて食べることにした。

I ate everything I bought at the fishmonger, but I couldn't drink enough, so I decided to warm up the retort food I bought.

マレーシアの中華系伝統料理「ルンダン」と、日本のカレー屋で提供している「どエビカレー」のレトルトを温めた。

We warmed the retort of Malaysian traditional Chinese food "Rendang" and "Do shrimp curry" offered at Japanese curry shops.

ふたつともご飯に合いそうな料理なので、タイの香り米を炊いて一緒に食べることにした。

Both of them seem to go well with rice, so I decided to cook Thai aromatic rice and eat it together.

ルンダンの方は、とてもスパイスの香りが強く、あまり私の口には合わなかったが、夫はいままで食べた料理の中で一番おいしいかもしれないと大絶賛だった。

Rendang had a very strong spice scent and didn't really fit my taste, but my husband praised it as perhaps the most delicious dish I had ever eaten.

どエビカレーはわたしの舌に合う味だったのでおいしくいただいた。

The shrimp curry tasted good to my tongue, so it was delicious.

食べ終わった時点で午前４時くらいだったが、おなかもいっぱいになって眠たくなってきたので、夫と二人でお昼寝をした。

It was about 4 am when I finished eating, but I was full and became sleepy, so I took a nap with my husband.
